How the calculator works

Three numbers drive
your SEO return.

The model is deliberately simple so you can check it yourself. Change one input at a time to see which lever matters most for your business.

01 / Traffic

Extra visits

Your current organic visits multiplied by the growth you expect. Growth builds month by month and reaches the target in month 12.

02 / Conversion

Extra revenue

Extra visits times your conversion rate times the value of one conversion. For lead generation, use the value of a lead, not of a closed deal.

03 / Cost

ROI and payback

Revenue minus your SEO budget, divided by the budget. Payback is the first month in which total revenue covers total spend.

FAQ

SEO ROI: common questions.

How do you calculate SEO ROI?

SEO ROI is the extra revenue from organic search minus what you spend on SEO, divided by what you spend. This calculator estimates extra revenue from traffic growth, conversion rate and the value of a conversion.

How long does SEO take to pay back?

For most sites, SEO starts to pay back somewhere between month 4 and month 12. It depends on competition, how much technical debt the site has, and how valuable each conversion is.

What traffic growth should I assume?

For a site with clear technical and content gaps, 50 to 100% growth in a year is a common target. For a mature site in a competitive market, 20 to 40% is more realistic.

Why compare with Google Ads?

Organic visits are traffic you would otherwise have to buy. Multiplying them by your average cost per click shows what that traffic would cost as paid search.
