PrestaShop SEO for ChatGPT shopping

ChatGPT builds shopping answers from product feeds, structured data and reviews. We make your PrestaShop data the one it trusts, shows first and cites.

Why PrestaShop SEO needs a specialist, not a generalist

PrestaShop powers roughly 300,000 active stores, most of them in France, Spain, Italy and Poland. Its flexibility is a strength for merchants and a trap for SEO: almost every ranking problem we audit comes from a default setting or a module nobody configured.

Faceted search creates duplicate content at scale

The default Faceted Search module appends ?q=Size-M/Color-Blue parameters to every category. Without canonical rules, robots directives and a crawl budget plan, Google indexes tens of thousands of near-identical pages and your real categories lose authority.

Friendly URLs that are not so friendly

Product IDs in URLs, the /home/ and /content/ paths, category URLs that change when you move a product, and 404s after every import. We define the URL schema once, set 301 rules in .htaccess and the Redirect module, and stop the leak.

Multi-language and multi-shop done right

PrestaShop supports several languages and shops out of the box, but hreflang, canonical and language-fallback behaviour are frequently misconfigured. We make sure Google shows the French store in France and the Spanish one in Spain, not a mixture.

Speed is a module problem

Each module adds its CSS and JS to every page. We audit modules, enable Smarty cache and CCC the right way, move you to proper hosting (or Cloud) when needed and get LCP under 2.5 s on product pages. Core Web Vitals are a ranking signal, and a conversion one.

Visibility in ChatGPT and AI Overviews

Shoppers increasingly ask AI assistants which product to buy. Clean product data, review and offer schema, structured comparisons and FAQ content make your catalogue the one that gets cited in AI answers and Google’s AI Overviews.

Experienced specialists, direct access

You work with Adrian Dąbrowiecki and experienced specialists who have worked inside PrestaShop back offices, not with an account manager. No 12-month lock-in, cancel with one month’s notice.

What our PrestaShop SEO services include

A complete programme covering the technical foundation, the catalogue, content, links and reporting. You can start with an audit alone or run the full campaign.

01

Technical SEO audit for PrestaShop

Full crawl of your store with Screaming Frog and Search Console data: indexation, faceted URLs, canonicals, hreflang, redirects, pagination, Core Web Vitals and module conflicts. Delivered as a prioritised backlog your developer can start on the same week. Learn more about our SEO audits.

02

Category and product page optimization

Title and meta templates, category descriptions above and below the product grid, product copy that answers buying questions, attribute and feature pages that deserve to rank, internal linking from blog to categories.

03

Faceted navigation and crawl budget

Strategy for which filter combinations should be indexable (e.g. brand + category) and which should be blocked or canonicalised. Configuration of the Faceted Search module, robots.txt and canonical tags, then crawl monitoring.

04

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Module audit, Smarty and browser caching, image conversion to WebP, lazy loading, critical CSS, theme cleanup and hosting recommendations. We measure on real product and category pages, not the homepage.

05

Structured data and AI search

Product, Offer, AggregateRating, BreadcrumbList, FAQ and Organization schema aligned with Merchant Center feeds. Content formats that get your store quoted in AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. See AI SEO.

06

Link building and digital PR

Links from retail, lifestyle and industry media in your target markets (FR, ES, PL, IT, DE, UK, US), supplier and brand pages, comparison sites. Quality criteria agreed upfront, every link reported. See link building.

How we work on a PrestaShop store

The same six steps for a 500-product niche shop and a 50,000-SKU multi-shop. The first two are free, whether or not we work together afterwards.

01

Technical audit and quick wins

We crawl the store, read Search Console, check module list, server response times and the index. You get a list of blockers and the three biggest opportunities within 7 days.

02

Strategy and 90-day plan

Category architecture, target queries per market and language, content priorities and a roadmap your team or your PrestaShop agency can execute. Agreed with you, not imposed.

03

Technical implementation

We fix or specify fixes for canonicals, hreflang, redirects, faceted search, pagination, schema and speed. We can work in your back office and theme directly or hand over tickets to your developers.

04

Catalogue and content

Category descriptions, product templates, buying guides, brand pages and blog content planned around how your customers search in each market. Written by native speakers for FR, ES, PL, IT, DE and EN.

05

Authority building

Digital PR and link acquisition in your markets, supplier backlinks, affiliate and comparison placements. Monthly link report with every URL.

06

Reporting and iteration

Looker Studio dashboard with GA4, Search Console and revenue data per category and market. Monthly call: what grew, what did not, what we change next. Tools: GSC, GA4, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog.

PrestaShop SEO problems we fix most often

A field guide from audits of PrestaShop 1.6, 1.7 and 8 stores across France, Spain, Poland, Italy and the US. If you recognise two or three of these, your store is leaking traffic.

Thousands of indexed filter URLs

The most common issue by far. Faceted Search (formerly Layered Navigation) generates URLs for every size, colour, price range and availability combination. On a 2,000-product store we routinely find 40,000 to 150,000 indexable URLs. Google spends its crawl budget on noise and treats your categories as thin. The fix is a decision, then configuration: index a shortlist of valuable combinations (brand + category, material + category), canonicalise or noindex the rest, and verify the result in Search Console’s page indexing report over the following 4 to 8 weeks.

Product IDs in URLs and unstable paths

PrestaShop 1.6 and some 1.7 setups keep numeric IDs in URLs (/12-chaussures-running). Removing them without a redirect map destroys rankings overnight; keeping them is ugly but survivable. We decide per store whether to remove IDs, set the right schema in SEO & URLs, generate the 301 map for every product, category, CMS page and image, and monitor 404s after the switch.

Canonical and hreflang in multi-language and multi-shop

Stores selling in French, Spanish and English from one installation often serve identical content on several URLs, or set canonicals pointing to the default language. Multi-shop setups with separate domains add cross-domain duplication. We implement correct self-referencing canonicals, reciprocal hreflang with x-default, language-specific sitemaps and consistent currency and shipping information, so each market ranks with its own pages.

Slow front office

Fifty modules each loading their own assets, no Smarty cache, uncompressed images and shared hosting. Typical result: LCP above 4 seconds on mobile. We cut module overhead, configure caching correctly for PrestaShop 8, serve WebP and recommend hosting that fits your traffic. The gain shows up in rankings and in conversion rate.

Thin categories and duplicated product descriptions

Manufacturer descriptions copied across hundreds of products and categories with no text leave Google nothing to rank. We prioritise categories by revenue potential, write content that answers real buying questions and set up templates so new products ship with usable copy.

Pagination, sorting and out-of-stock handling

Sorting parameters (?order=product.price.asc) create more duplicates; pagination handled with noindex kills deep product pages; deleted products return 404 instead of a 301 to the parent category. We set pagination to be crawlable, canonicalise sort orders and define rules for products that are discontinued or temporarily out of stock.

Migration to PrestaShop 8 or to another platform

Upgrading from 1.6 or 1.7 to PrestaShop 8, changing theme, or moving to Shopify, Magento or WooCommerce: every one of these is a URL and template change that can cost 30 to 60 percent of organic traffic if rushed. We run the migration SEO checklist: URL inventory, redirect map, metadata and schema parity, staging crawl, launch-day verification and 90 days of monitoring. If you are weighing platforms, read our pages on Shopify SEO and Magento SEO.

PrestaShop SEO: frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions merchants ask us before starting. For the broader picture, see our ecommerce SEO services.

Is PrestaShop good for SEO?

Yes, when configured. PrestaShop gives you friendly URLs, editable metadata, multi-language support and full access to templates and server. The weak points are defaults: faceted filters, ID-based URLs, module bloat and canonical handling. A specialist PrestaShop SEO agency fixes those once, and the platform ranks as well as Shopify or Magento.

How much does PrestaShop SEO cost?

It depends on catalogue size, languages and whether we implement fixes or specify them for your developer. After the free audit you receive a fixed quote with scope. The quote reflects senior expertise and working hours that overlap with US and EU teams.

How long until a PrestaShop store sees results?

Technical fixes such as faceted search and canonicals typically show in Search Console within 4 to 8 weeks. Category rankings improve in 2 to 4 months; content and links compound from month 4 onwards. Migrations are measured against pre-launch traffic over 90 days.

Do you need access to our back office and server?

For an audit, read access to Search Console and GA4 plus a crawl is enough. For implementation we work in your back office, theme and .htaccess, or we deliver precise tickets for your developer or PrestaShop agency. Both models are common.

Can you handle a multi-language or multi-shop PrestaShop?

Yes. Multi-language and multi-shop setups are where we add the most value: hreflang, canonicals, language sitemaps, local content and local link building for France, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany and English-speaking markets. See our international SEO services.

Should we migrate from PrestaShop 1.6 or 1.7 to PrestaShop 8?

Usually yes: PrestaShop 8 is faster, supports PHP 8 and receives security updates. The SEO risk is in URL and template changes, not in the version itself. With a redirect map, metadata parity and a staging crawl we typically keep traffic flat through the switch and grow afterwards.

Ready to make your PrestaShop store rank?

Most PrestaShop stores we audit are losing 30 to 50 percent of their potential organic traffic to filter duplicates, slow pages and canonical errors. Fixing them is finite work with a measurable return.

Send us your store URL. Within 7 days you receive a technical audit, the three biggest opportunities and a 90-day plan, free, whether or not we work together.
