Ecommerce SEO Consultancy
Looking for an ecommerce SEO consultant rather than another retainer that writes category copy? Adrian Dąbrowiecki and our team of experienced specialists advise online stores on the decisions that move organic revenue: platform choice and migrations, category architecture, faceted navigation policy, catalogue content at scale, Core Web Vitals roadmaps, international stores and AI shopping visibility. Your in-house team or agency executes; we set the direction, review the work and keep everyone honest about the numbers. We focus on international expansion: we advise e-commerce brands winning the US, UK and European markets. Experience from enterprise retail (Aldi, +132% organic) to Shopify and Magento brands.

Works with WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento, PrestaShop and BigCommerceWhy online stores hire an ecommerce SEO consultant
Ecommerce SEO is mostly architecture and process, not copywriting. The expensive mistakes (a bad migration, an uncontrolled filter system, a category tree built around the ERP instead of the customer) are made once and cost revenue for years. Senior advice pays off most at exactly those moments.
Revenue, not rankings, as the KPI
Every recommendation is weighed against organic revenue by category and product line, margin and stock, not against a keyword position. I set up reporting that your e-commerce director, your merchandiser and your dev lead can all act on.
Platform-specific judgement
Shopify’s locked URL structure, Magento’s layered navigation, WooCommerce’s plugin sprawl, PrestaShop’s friendly URLs, BigCommerce’s faceted search: each platform fails in its own way. I know which fixes are possible, which need an app or a developer, and which are not worth the fight.
A senior for your team, not a replacement for it
Your content team, developers and agency keep doing the work. I give them a prioritised roadmap, review their output, write dev tickets your engineers understand and answer the hard questions within hours on Slack.
AI shopping visibility built in
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews now recommend products and stores. Product data quality, structured data, reviews, feed health and brand mentions decide who gets named. It is part of every ecommerce roadmap I write.
What ecommerce SEO consulting covers
Scoped to your store size, platform and markets. These are the decisions where a senior outside opinion usually pays for itself in the first quarter.
Platform choice and migrations
Moving from Magento 1 to Shopify Plus? WooCommerce to BigCommerce? Headless? I assess the SEO impact before you sign, design the URL mapping, redirect and canonical strategy, review the staging build and monitor the weeks after launch. A planned migration keeps traffic; an unplanned one loses 30 to 50% of it.
Category architecture and internal linking
Category trees built around how customers search, not how the warehouse is organised. Which sub-categories deserve their own page, where filter combinations become categories, how collections link to each other and to buying guides, and how much copy a category page really needs.
Faceted navigation and indexation policy
Filters, sorts, pagination, variants and search pages can generate millions of URLs. I define one rule set per store: what is indexable, what is canonicalised, what is blocked, and how to implement it on your platform. Crawl budget goes to pages that sell.
Catalogue content at scale
Templates and briefs for thousands of product and category pages: unique descriptions where they matter, structured attributes where they do not, review and Q&A integration, and the Product, Offer and AggregateRating schema that earns rich results. Plus a plan for out-of-stock and discontinued products.
International stores and marketplaces
Country folders vs. ccTLDs vs. Shopify Markets, hreflang for product variants, currency and pricing pages, localisation beyond translation, and how organic coexists with Amazon and comparison engines. See also our international SEO consultancy.
Core Web Vitals and feed synergy
A performance roadmap your developers can schedule: theme and app bloat, image pipelines, third-party scripts, server response. Plus Google Merchant Center feed quality so Shopping, free listings and organic reinforce each other instead of competing.
Who this is for
Ecommerce SEO consultancy fits stores that already have people or partners doing the work and need senior direction, platform expertise and an independent view.
D2C brands and retailers with an in-house team
You have a content marketer, a developer or an agency on the theme, and a merchandiser who owns categories. Nobody owns SEO strategy. I take that seat part time: roadmap, reviews, monthly calls and the technical conversations.
Ecommerce directors with an agency they cannot evaluate
The monthly report shows rankings going up while organic revenue is flat. I review the agency’s strategy, content and link profile against your sales data and tell you what to keep, change or stop. Agency oversight is one of the most requested engagements.
Stores planning a migration or replatforming
A one-off project: SEO requirements for the RFP, review of the platform or agency proposal, URL and redirect mapping, staging QA and post-launch monitoring. The single highest-ROI consultancy work in ecommerce.
Investors and acquirers of ecommerce businesses
SEO due diligence for D2C and marketplace deals: how durable the organic revenue is, how dependent on brand search or a handful of categories, technical debt in the platform, exposure to algorithm and AI shopping shifts, and realistic post-acquisition upside.
How an ecommerce SEO consulting engagement runs
Whether you book a migration review or a fractional role for a year, the first weeks follow the same path.
Discovery call and access
A free 30-minute call about your platform, catalogue size, markets, team and targets. Then read access to Search Console, GA4, your ecommerce analytics, Merchant Center and a crawl of the store.
Store audit and opportunity sizing
Technical crawl of categories, products, filters and pagination; indexation and crawl budget analysis; Core Web Vitals; content inventory; backlink profile; AI shopping visibility check. Opportunities sized in organic revenue, not traffic.
Strategy and 12-month roadmap
Category architecture decisions, faceted navigation policy, content templates, performance roadmap, international plan and link strategy, sequenced by revenue impact and dev effort. Written so your team can execute without me in the room.
Workshop with marketing, merchandising and dev
A half-day session to align on findings, agree the first quarter’s priorities and translate them into dev tickets, content briefs and merchandising rules.
Advisory rhythm
Monthly or bi-weekly calls, Slack access, review of category copy, product templates, dev tickets and theme releases before they ship. Monthly commentary on organic revenue by category.
Quarterly review
What moved, what did not and why. Roadmap re-planned around seasonality, new ranges and platform changes. If the team no longer needs me, we scale down.
Ecommerce SEO problems I see in almost every store audit
Patterns from stores between 500 and 500,000 SKUs on Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, PrestaShop and BigCommerce.
Filters indexing millions of near-duplicate URLs
Layered navigation in Magento, tag pages in Shopify, attribute filters in WooCommerce: left alone they create colour × size × price × brand combinations that Google crawls instead of your products. The fix is a policy, not a plugin: decide which combinations have search demand and become real category pages, canonicalise or noindex the rest, and keep the crawl path to products short.
Category pages with no copy, or 1,500 words nobody reads
Both extremes lose. Category pages need enough content to establish the topic and answer buying questions, placed where it does not push products below the fold, and internal links to sub-categories and guides. I set the template and the word budget per category tier, then review the first batch.
Product pages that are duplicates of the manufacturer feed
Thousands of products with the supplier’s description, no reviews, no Q&A and generic titles. Prioritise by revenue and search demand: unique content for the top 10 to 20% of SKUs, structured attributes and review schema for the rest, and a rule for variants, bundles and discontinued items.
Migrations that lost half the traffic
A replatform or redesign without a URL map, with canonicals pointing to staging, with filters suddenly indexable or with category URLs changed ‘for cleanliness’. I review migration plans before launch and insist on a redirect map, parity crawl and a monitoring plan. It is the cheapest insurance in ecommerce.
No presence in AI shopping answers
Ask ChatGPT or Gemini for the best product in your category and competitors appear with sources you do not control. Product data completeness, structured data, review volume, feed quality and mentions in buying guides decide who is recommended. It is now part of every ecommerce roadmap.
Platform-specific issues
Shopify’s locked /collections/ and /products/ paths and duplicate collection-product URLs, Magento’s indexer and layered navigation settings, WooCommerce’s plugin-induced speed debt, PrestaShop’s multistore canonicals, BigCommerce’s faceted search: each platform has a known list. Platform execution is covered on our Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, PrestaShop and BigCommerce SEO pages.
Engagement models for ecommerce teams
Most stores start with a store audit or a migration review and continue on a retainer. Hourly consulting is available for one-off questions and second opinions.

Ecommerce SEO consulting: frequently asked questions
What store owners and ecommerce directors ask before working with me. The general model is explained on the SEO consultancy page.
What does an ecommerce SEO consultant do that an agency does not?
A consultant decides and reviews; your team or agency executes. For a store that means category architecture, faceted navigation policy, migration planning, content templates and performance priorities, plus an independent read of your agency’s work. You buy senior judgement by the hour or month, not volume.
How much does ecommerce SEO consulting cost?
Hourly consulting is $100–150 per hour with a 5-hour minimum. Advisory retainers start around 8 hours per month; fractional Head of SEO roles at one day per week. Store audits, migration reviews and due diligence are fixed-fee projects quoted after the free call.
Do you work with Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, PrestaShop and BigCommerce?
Yes, and the advice differs by platform. A Shopify SEO consultant works around locked URLs and collection duplicates; a Magento SEO consultant spends time on layered navigation and indexers; a WooCommerce SEO consultant on plugins and speed. I have advised stores on all five and write tickets in each platform’s terms.
Can you review a migration our agency or developer has planned?
Yes, this is one of the most common projects. I review the URL map, redirects, canonicals, rendering, filters and staging build before launch, and monitor Search Console and revenue in the weeks after. Catching one bad rule before launch is worth more than a year of content.
How long until ecommerce SEO shows results in revenue?
Technical and indexation fixes typically show in Search Console within 4 to 8 weeks. Measurable organic revenue uplift usually arrives in months 3 to 6, faster for stores with existing authority. Content, links and AI visibility compound from month 6 onwards.
Can you work alongside our existing SEO agency?
Yes. I review their strategy, content and links against your revenue data, join the monthly call and help you set better briefs and KPIs. Good agencies welcome it; if yours does not, that is useful information too.
